A Little Loki

Loki by Chrisitna WaldI have been super, super swamped lately. The good news is after I finish the book I am currently illustrations, I will be catching on comic projects. I have a couple zines and a webcomic in the works.

In the meantime, I just found out that Murder on the North Sea is a finalist in the mini-comic category of the SPACE Day Prize. How cool! Now I just need to do the next one…

Sinister Cover-Murder on the North SeaSo, until there are more comics, enjoy this little Tom Hiddlston/Loki painting…

Kim Novak and Pyewacket or Happy Halloween!

Bell Book and Candle

Getting into the spirit of Halloween in the sketchbook today and National Cat Day yesterday.

This is from my favorite movie growing up, Bell, Book and Candle.

I even had a cat named Pyewacket (I spelled it wrong though as Piewacket). She was not a Siamese but was memorable for her desire to kill all humans or at least stick her claws in them.

Farewell Robin Williams

CWALD-8-11-14-the fisher king

Sketch of Robin Williams from my favorite movie of his; The Fisher King directed by Terry Gilliam. (Also from my favorite scene.)

His monologue from the movie (and scene):

Parry: It begins with the king as a boy, having to spend the night alone in the forest to prove his courage so he can become king. Now while he is spending the night alone he’s visited by a sacred vision. Out of the fire appears the holy grail, symbol of God’s divine grace. And a voice said to the boy, “You shall be keeper of the grail so that it may heal the hearts of men.” But the boy was blinded by greater visions of a life filled with power and glory and beauty. And in this state of radical amazement he felt for a brief moment not like a boy, but invincible, like God, so he reached into the fire to take the grail, and the grail vanished, leaving him with his hand in the fire to be terribly wounded. Now as this boy grew older, his wound grew deeper. Until one day, life for him lost its reason. He had no faith in any man, not even himself. He couldn’t love or feel loved. He was sick with experience. He began to die. One day a fool wandered into the castle and found the king alone. And being a fool, he was simple minded, he didn’t see a king. He only saw a man alone and in pain. And he asked the king, “What ails you friend?” The king replied, “I’m thirsty. I need some water to cool my throat”. So the fool took a cup from beside his bed, filled it with water and handed it to the king. As the king began to drink, he realized his wound was healed. He looked in his hands and there was the holy grail, that which he sought all of his life. And he turned to the fool and said with amazement, “How can you find that which my brightest and bravest could not?” And the fool replied, “I don’t know. I only knew that you were thirsty.”

UPDATE: You can now listen to Terry Gilliam’s commentary for The Fisher King online.

Sadly, it was never on the DVD; only laser disk…

Peter Capaldi Sketches

CWALD-7-30-14-Capaldi RichelieuI have been really swamped lately but and still doing these studies in my sketchbooks. Here is Peter Capaldi as Cardinal Richelieu in The Three Musketeers. These are in honor of the Dr. Who premiere coming up.

In addition, here is a little doodle of Peter Capaldi charming snakes in the 1988 film Lair of the White Worm. This movie had everything: Bram Stoker, Amanda Donohoe, Peter Capaldi, Hugh Grant, vampires, a giant snake and topped off by being directed by Ken Russell.

Also notable are the curly, floppy locks of Hugh Grant and Peter Capaldi in the movie.

I think it is still on Netflix…

Orange is the New Black

Orange is the new black

Just finished the second season of Orange is the New Black.

I have to say my favorite new character is Vee. She is the Dolores Umbridge of OITNB.

Ultimately, I was not happy with the resolution to her story arc…

Of course, if you have not checked out the OITNB Zine, please do! http://issuu.com/standingstill/docs/standingstill

Game of Thrones Season 4 Finale Cartoons of Happy Father’s Day Tywin Lannister

got fan art

I have been super swamped lately. It is going to be a crazy busy summer and the most I can do is these quickie doodles.

It is an interesting choice that the finale for Game of Thrones is on Father’s Day. Just a thought…

Sketchbook Portraits

Sketch of the one and only... Vincent Price

Sketch on Vincent Price’s Birthday

I got an 8″ x 10″ Moleskine from my brother and sister-in-law for Christmas last year and have really enjoyed it. Lately I have been playing around with portraits. I have some comics in the works so stay tuned. I am also working on some books. A lot is in the pipeline!
