The BBC Amusment Park I Would Like to Visit

Pop Smoothie BBC Amusement ParkA while ago it was announced that there is going to be a BBC Amusement Park opening in 2020.

This is the park I want to visit… Of course rides like the Absolutely Fabulous Blackout and the Black Adder Adventure Times would have to be in later park expansions.

Fortunately, I had help with this cartoon with my Imagineer friends who came up with way more ideas than I had time to draw. I used the most suggestions from Katie Wearne (who feels that we should start designing real amusement parks) and additional help from Nicole Justice, John Karabaic, Avys Hardison, Matt Harmon and Troy Cooksey. Additional thanks to Tiffany Jeane Vincent for a last minute suggestion to the Dr. Who ride name that made it 50% cooler!

I sketched more rides than ended up in the final map; maybe there will be an expansion map with the Chef! Food Court

Oh, and sorry Top Gear… Maybe that can be in the expansion.

A Little Loki

Loki by Chrisitna WaldI have been super, super swamped lately. The good news is after I finish the book I am currently illustrations, I will be catching on comic projects. I have a couple zines and a webcomic in the works.

In the meantime, I just found out that Murder on the North Sea is a finalist in the mini-comic category of the SPACE Day Prize. How cool! Now I just need to do the next one…

Sinister Cover-Murder on the North SeaSo, until there are more comics, enjoy this little Tom Hiddlston/Loki painting…

Kim Novak and Pyewacket or Happy Halloween!

Bell Book and Candle

Getting into the spirit of Halloween in the sketchbook today and National Cat Day yesterday.

This is from my favorite movie growing up, Bell, Book and Candle.

I even had a cat named Pyewacket (I spelled it wrong though as Piewacket). She was not a Siamese but was memorable for her desire to kill all humans or at least stick her claws in them.

Farewell Robin Williams

CWALD-8-11-14-the fisher king

Sketch of Robin Williams from my favorite movie of his; The Fisher King directed by Terry Gilliam. (Also from my favorite scene.)

His monologue from the movie (and scene):

Parry: It begins with the king as a boy, having to spend the night alone in the forest to prove his courage so he can become king. Now while he is spending the night alone he’s visited by a sacred vision. Out of the fire appears the holy grail, symbol of God’s divine grace. And a voice said to the boy, “You shall be keeper of the grail so that it may heal the hearts of men.” But the boy was blinded by greater visions of a life filled with power and glory and beauty. And in this state of radical amazement he felt for a brief moment not like a boy, but invincible, like God, so he reached into the fire to take the grail, and the grail vanished, leaving him with his hand in the fire to be terribly wounded. Now as this boy grew older, his wound grew deeper. Until one day, life for him lost its reason. He had no faith in any man, not even himself. He couldn’t love or feel loved. He was sick with experience. He began to die. One day a fool wandered into the castle and found the king alone. And being a fool, he was simple minded, he didn’t see a king. He only saw a man alone and in pain. And he asked the king, “What ails you friend?” The king replied, “I’m thirsty. I need some water to cool my throat”. So the fool took a cup from beside his bed, filled it with water and handed it to the king. As the king began to drink, he realized his wound was healed. He looked in his hands and there was the holy grail, that which he sought all of his life. And he turned to the fool and said with amazement, “How can you find that which my brightest and bravest could not?” And the fool replied, “I don’t know. I only knew that you were thirsty.”

UPDATE: You can now listen to Terry Gilliam’s commentary for The Fisher King online.

Sadly, it was never on the DVD; only laser disk…
